We are constantly obsessing over crystal-clear skin so we can take the best selfies possible. Trust me, I know how it is. But whether you’re having bad days or weeks and despite all your efforts not improving things, sometimes it’s difficult to have a realistic outlook right off the bat unless you give yourself some time. Continue to read to learn my 4 ways to be confident in your skin.
Stop comparing yourself
Comparing yourself to the people you see on social media is a recipe for disaster, It is much easier said than done. Comparing yourself to the people you see on social media is a recipe for disaster.
It is important to keep in mind that not everything you see on social media is an accurate representation of reality. Many celebrities and influencers use filters and editing apps to alter their photos, which can give you a false sense of what is considered “normal” in real life or makeup artists and content creators may use editing to enhance the beauty in their creation.
Please remember that, very few people actually care about whether or not you have acne, expression lines or whatever imperfections in your eyes you may have. When we fixate on something, we tend to notice it more. This can be the case with our skin as well. If you do find yourself feeling insecure about your body or life after scrolling on insta, maybe it’s time to unfollow/mute some of these accounts?
Self-Care And Mindset, What Really Matters
Going back to the social media comparison, here is one of the steps that really helped me go through the pandemic is to curate a social media feed that makes you feel good about yourself! Follow accounts that promote skin positivity and inspire you to become the best version of yourself.
No one is born with confident. We all have insecurities and moments where we don’t feel our best. However, it’s important to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically can make such a difference in how we see and feel about ourselves. When we put effort into improving our wellbeing, it shines through in our appearance and attitude.
You are probably tired of hearing “take a bath” “stay hydrated” “get enough sleep” “exercise”.. I know I am, but sometimes I read these articles and say to myself “do you think if I could I wouldn’t, are you not going to tell me how to get there?” Does this sound familiar? Here are some of the ways I improved my quality of life
1.Hydration – as annoying as it sounds, it is important to our biggest organ, that’s right the skin.
If you know me personally, you would know I can go a whole day without a sip of water. I would say I dislike drinking water, especially since moving to the UK and discovering the world of limescale and spending thousands of pounds per year on filters. One way I found to force myself to drink more water is adding taste drops or upon recent years clear protein has become more and more popular. Not only your water will taste great, but also you have the option to get extra benefits to your nutritional intake, no sugars and a happy dentist 😉

Sleep – my anxiety cannot understand this, error 404, send help. More importantly have a good bed hygiene.
When you’re living with anxiety, your adrenaline levels are constantly running higher. The best way to describe this feeling sometimes is: imagine you have decided to dedicate 10 minutes of your day to doing sprints, your heart rate is going higher and higher the more sprints you do and you feel good at the end, right? Now imagine as those 10 minutes have passed and you cannot stop sprinting, you want to stop or reduce your running pace and take a deep breath, but you can’t. Yep, this is me, from waking up to what some can consider appropriate night bedtime.
Some key life changes I did to improve my quality of sleep, and this may sound silly to some, but believe me when I tell you the struggle is real especially if you are a freelancer and/or work from home.
- move your desk or computer setup out of your bedroom, if it’s possible. Now I understand you may be sharing a flat, in this case you may want to reconsider rearranging and optimizing your room space, so that your work space is not the same first place you see when you wake up.
- don’t work, eat or take quick rests (not naps, you know how sometimes you throw yourself on the best and start scrolling on your phone.)
- aromatherapy and no need to spend thousands of pounds!
- meditation
3. Pamper – you deserve it! A simple act of kindness towards yourself will improve your feeling of self-worth
Pampering doesn’t always mean buying yourself something new and shiny, you shouldn’t feel guilty about spending money on things that make YOU feel good. Not every pound/dollar/euro/whatever your currency you earn has to go into life savings or paying off debt. My biggest advice is to put pampering into your budget so that you can enjoy treats without the feeling of guilt, when you decide to do so.
The Perfect Skincare Routine
Are you unhappy with your skin? If so, there are definitely ways to improve it. The key is finding the right skincare routine for your specific skin type. Once you know what type of skin you have, it will be easier to find products that work well for you and like many things in life it’s a test and learn.
It’s also a good idea to familiarize yourself with skincare labels and ingredients. This way, you’ll know which ingredients to look for (or avoid) depending on your skin type. A common myth is that people with oily skin should skip moisturizer. This is not true! In fact, keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best things you can do for it.
When trying out new products, give them some time to work. It usually four to six weeks to see if a product is effective and notice it’s results.
You Are Enough
Although skin concerns like acne can affect our confidence, there are other aspects of our lives that are just as important. For example, we may have hobbies that we love or goals that we are pursuing. Or maybe we are working towards our dream career. These things are essential, too. Relying on those around us is a great way to work on insecurities surrounding our skin. Talking to people close to us can help us realize that everyone has insecurities, even those with “clear skin.” In that case, it’s important to speak to ourselves in a positive way. Practice affirmations and positive self-talk on a daily basis.
