There are pro makeup artists who have dedicated their entire careers to mastering the art of brush application, and we’d say they’ve done a pretty good job at it. There are so many different kinds of makeup brushes, and it’s not just about functionality. The right brush can make lipstick look great or deliver the perfect amount of shimmer to your look. Some brushes are good for applying bronzer, while others are better for cutting the perfect crease. I can’t help but feel intimidated by the thought of selecting the perfect makeup brush. But don’t worry! There are so many options available, and I’m here to give you a crash course on all the different types of brushes so you can make an informed decision.
Face brushes
Facial brushes come in a few different varieties, and each one does a different job. Foundation brushes are typically dome-shaped and are typically used for placing and distributing foundation on the face. Poured and sable brushes are typically used for applying liquid foundation and have bristles that are densely packed together.
Poured brushes have a dome-shaped head that’s filled with bristles, while sable brushes have a “sable” head – a particular type of natural or synthetic fibre that’s used for absorbing oil. Blender brushes are designed to help blend out foundation and concealer on the face, and are typically used with an angle, so they can be used to create a flawless finish.
Eye brushes
The eye area is one of the most sensitive areas of the face, and that’s why it requires extra care and attention when applying makeup. That’s why eye brushes come in such handy! There are all sorts of different shapes and sizes, from flat brushes with angular bristles to fluffy brushes, which are great for blending out eye safe products.
Brow brushes
Typically used for filling your brows or creating brow-like strokes, and at a 45 degree angle, which is what helps you groom your brows for a professional finish. But don’t confide yourself within the labelled name of the brush, it can be used for applying eyeliner, creating shapes and forms or anything you feel inspired to do with.
