If the name Fussy rings a bell, it’s likely due to its founders’ appearance on Dragon’s Den. Personally, TV isn’t my go-to, but my assistant briefed me on this brand.

When Fussy approached me for a review, I thought, ‘Here we go… How do I admit I’m clueless about Dragon’s Den?’ And then, I pondered if switching my natural deodorant was worth it.

About The Brand

When Matt Kennedy and Eddie Fisher noticed the tremendous amounts of single-use plastic used in everyday bathroom items like deodorant, they knew there had to be a better way.

Inspired by their desire to make a positive environmental impact, they launched Fussy Deodorant as a Kickstarter project in October 2020.

The overwhelming response from the Fussy community fuelled Matt and Eddie’s determination to make a difference and inspired them to further develop their natural deodorant brand. Through their products and the collective action of their community, they strive to pave the way for a future where personal care can be both effective and sustainable, one armpit at a time.

Fussy Deodorant offers a range of options, including sticks and roll-ons, providing flexibility for different preferences, and now more about the product itself.

Sustainable or just Greenwashing?

One admirable aspect of Fussy Deodorant is its strong focus on sustainability.

Recognizing the importance of reducing waste, Fussy utilizes eco-friendly packaging made from recyclable materials in a carbon neutral factory. With Fussy, sustainability is not just a buzzword—it’s a tangible goal.

The reusable case is crafted from recycled plastic, giving new life to materials that would otherwise contribute to the growing plastic waste problem.

And their deodorant refills sit snugly in a compostable sugarcane pulp base. Derived from renewable resources, this compostable base provides a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic containers.

How Does It Work?

In terms of cost, Fussy Deodorant falls within the mid-range for natural deodorants. While it may be slightly higher priced than mass-market alternatives, it reflects the brand’s commitment to using quality, eco-friendly ingredients and sustainable packaging.

Get Fussy Deodorant Ingredients

Unlike deodorants containing aluminium salts, natural deos prioritize your well-being by avoiding these ingredients. While they won’t stop you from sweating, they harness the power of various natural ingredients to combat odours and minimize the presence of harmful bacteria, ultimately leaving you with a fresher, more pleasant scent.

Fussy contains several natural skincare ingredients commonly found in these types of deodorants. These include pH neutralizing sodium bicarbonate, coconut oil containing antibacterial lauric acid, and tapioca, which gently absorbs sweat.

However, the standout and unique selling point (USP) of the formula is the inclusion of a probiotic called Lactobacillus which helps counteract the presence of harmful bacteria that leads to unpleasant odours. As a result, bacteria is neutralised, and you will enjoy the long-lasting perfume based on essential oils.

The Verdict

Although Fussy gifted me a case and refill, we had to test out their service and so I ordered for my assistant Andy a case and refill to try alongside with me. As a disclaimer I am already using a natural deodorant, Andy isn’t – this is his first time switching to a natural deo.

The Fussy Scents Review: both of us enjoyed Cloud Nine, Tropic Tonic, Wavy Days and the Unscented version! Andy also liked Night Tales, but for me it reminded me of going to the dentist – probably from the combination of cedar and patchouli in general.

The Formula: Super smooth, kind of reminded me of the Lanolips 101 ointment but thinner! No white marks on cloths, no residue, no balling up.

Does it really work: Gets 4 out of 5, but only because I would prefer the scents to be stronger!

Listen, I know some of you may say I am petty for taking a star out, but this is my personal preference. Compared to my usual wild subscription, fussy lacks strength in the fragrance division. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t smell bad with Fussy. I cannot say I didn’t enjoy the deo, because I did, but for me I would opt out for a more heavily fragranced natural deodorant.

And what about Andy, I hear you asked.. Well, let me just tell you that starting a natural deodorant on the hottest day of June is definitely not it. Here’s what he had to say:

Maggie I am giving you my two weeks notice.
I am only joking.
Although I didn’t really expect to need a transition period, the first week was definitely not my favourite – sweat wise. Second week was better, I didn’t think about reaching to an antiperspirant or my usual drugstore stick. When it’s time to replace the refill, I can simply compost the base, knowing that it will naturally break down and return to the earth.
The scents are great, I liked changing them in between days and going out to match my perfume notes better.
Will I continue to use it – yes, consider me being fussy from now on.

And that’s it folks, what do you think? Would you give Fussy a try and join their mission one armpit at a time?

If you do decide to give them a try, Fussy have given me an exclusive discount code for new customers to use! Use AFFMAGGIE12 at checkout to save 12% on all orders.
