Released back in May 2023, this viral water based setting powder if finally getting the attention it deserves. As a makeup artist I see so many products that we use in our day-to day kits that we rave about, but never seem to get the attention they deserve.

But before I give you my review of the powder let’s get some basics out of the way…

What Is The Difference Between Finishing and Setting Powder?

Using the right products and techniques can make a significant difference in achieving your desired makeup finish and picking the right product for you is just as important. In essence, setting powder serves the purpose of prolonging the wear of your makeup, whereas finishing powder is also used elevate and enhance its overall appearance.

Finishing powder (FP), often labelled as ‘HD’ for high definition camera use, serves as a transformative touch to your makeup and skin. It adds colour, luminosity, and a pore-blurring effect akin to a camera filter. Think of it as an IRL version of FaceTune, providing an airbrushed finish. By harnessing the power of light, FP effortlessly illuminates your complexion, enhancing your innate radiance and leaving you with a flawlessly perfected appearance..

Additionally FP also help balance out any excess bronzer, blush, or contouring without making your face looking “caked up”

On the other hand, setting powder’s main purpose is to ensure the longevity of your makeup throughout the day and night. By absorbing excess oils from the skin and liquid foundation products, setting powder prevents makeup from sliding off your face and keeps it in place.

How To Use A Setting or Finishing Powder?

Do you really need to use both types of powder together? Not really. A single layer of powder is ample to ensure your makeup stays put and lends a polished touch to your skin. If, by any chance, you have applied an excessive amount of blush or highlighter, a touch of finishing powder can assist in toning it down and seamlessly blending any pronounced edges.

In the majority of instances, it is usually sufficient to apply powder to the t-zone, which corresponds to the forehead and extends downwards along the nose, resembling the shape of the letter “t”. This region tends to be prone to excess sebum production.

A SP and FP can be applied with a brush, blender and powder puff. Most makeup artist like myself opt in for a fluffy blending brush or a powder puff for that airbrushed look.

What Makes This Specific Powder So Special?

Before anything else, it’s important to note that this powder despite it’s amazing formula is not suitable for baking under eyes, as water active will darken concealer to a shade deeper.

Turning the glass jar upside down and back would allow you to dispense the perfect product dose from this amazing finishing powder into the cap to ensure you won’t overuse it! Make sure you tightly seal cap after each use to prevent formula from drying out, as it will loose it’s magic.

This powder is truly unlike anything else you would have seen so far in terms like texture, as soon as you touch the powder it literally melts into the skin without leaving any residue.

My Verdict

This hydrating formula makes the powder a perfect recommendation not only for young adults, but also a necessity for those with mature skin that have struggled with creasing. My only wish is although the powder comes in 6 versatile shades, a translucent powder is missing.
